Visit Haugesund

Sunnhordland & Stord

The island of Stord is situated at the entrance to Hardanger Fjord, with the North Sea to the west and Folgefonna Glacier to the east. It lies between Bergen and Haugesund and is the gateway to a region offering any number of experiences. However Stord itself has much to offer from nature and outdoor life to culture and entertainment. Stord is a part of the region called Sunnhordland - perhaps one of Norway´s most diverse and varied regions. Here the turbulent sea meets the calm expanse of mountain plains, fir covered islets and a fertile agricultural landscape, peaceful idyllic places, freezing glaciers and one of the country´s most impressive waterfalls, Langfoss.

In Sunnhordland you can find historical relics from the Stone-, Iron-, Bronze- and Viking Ages. You can go skiing on a glacier, swim in both the sea and in lakes, fish trout in the rivers and pollack in the fjord - experience everything on the same day! Here you can find many small natural and cultural pearls which together become a beautiful piece of jewelery.
